Because of my ordeal it became my mission to assist people in their quest for freedom, to live in world without fear, surrounded by protection.
In 2008 I founded the charity organisation “Free a Girl” together with Evelien Hölsken, Yolanthe Sneijder Cabau and Roelof van Laar.
Free a Girl is committed to freeing young girls from forced prostitution. In addition, the foundation invests in refuge, legal support, trauma processing, medical care, education and vocational training and reintegration of the victims.
In the past 10 years, Free a Girl has contributed to the liberation of more than 4,000 girls from brothels in Asia.
WHAT WE DO
Free a Girl was founded in 2008, based on the vision that every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment. All children around the world must be protected against every form of commercial sexual exploitation.
Free a Girl is striving for a world free of the commercial sexual exploita on of children. We do this by providing direct assistance to vic ms and by tackling impunity.
In our operations, Free a Girl’s work is based on the following four core values:
- The girls are paramount: as the projects revolve around them, we consider it essential that their input counts and that they have a say wherever possible.
- Action-oriented: our approach and that of our partners is centred on action.
- Fair: in how we communicate and what we expect from our partners. This is also what motivates us to do this work: we think that it is unjust that girls are being exploited.
- Innovative: we look for new ways to ght child pros tu on in both the programme and the donor countries.
